Charlotte’s breathing has been mostly stable throughout the night. They plan to take her off the antibiotics as her lungs sound clear! Praise the Lord! Every so often she sounds like she’s struggling to get a good breath, but they said it’s probably due to only irritation in her upper airways from intubation. She is also experiencing a lot of acid reflux which may be causing her some discomfort.
She is having a very hard time waking up from the sedatives. It’s been slow progress. She now has opened her eyes a few times, especially when David (Daddy) is talking to her. While she is coming out of sedation, we have seen her make small stretching motions with her arms and try to turn her head to the side. We are encouraged to see her responsive.
We still haven’t seen any positive progression in her sucking and swallowing ability. She has accepted the pacifier, but it was very difficult for her to keep it in her mouth and suck. Later today they plan to do a swallow study test with the speech team to make sure she still possesses the ability. We are praying that as she continues to wake up more, her muscles will regain the memory and strength to accomplish this.
The biggest prayer request right now is for Charlotte to be able to regain her sucking and swallowing abilities. Thank you all for the continued prayers! The calming presence of the Holy Spirit is granting strength from above and surrounding us with unsurpassable peace. God is always good!
