Last week Charlotte experienced very high fevers and much discomfort, so we took her back to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a UTI, but even after several days of antibiotics and fever reducers, her high fevers persisted. We also noticed an increase of seizure activity–which is very normal for a sick child with epilepsy.

Unfortunately, Charlotte experienced a severe seizure yesterday morning, and we called 911 after she didn’t respond to her seizure rescue medication. When the paramedic team arrived, they quickly determined that Charlotte needed to be airlifted to the hospital so she could be treated as soon as possible.

At the hospital her blood oxygen reached 70% because of her seizure rescue medications. They sedated and intubated her to remove the CO2 from her lungs. The doctors guessed that the seizure was caused by the UTI and high fevers. They think that Charlotte possibly had another undiagnosed infection, so they administered a large amount of antibiotics to clear it. Her fever is now broken, and the doctors are waiting for her to breathe on her own as she wakes up from the sedation.

David and I are so thankful for the peace and calmness of mind that God grants during these emergencies. He gives us strength and endurance as we navigate these challenging moments, and He bestows hope and joy despite the expected outcomes. We are aware that these circumstances will become more difficult as Charlotte and Sophie’s earthly bodies regress, but we also have faith in the God who possesses absolute power and performs acts of unbelievable phenomenon. He is always good.

If you can, please pray for Charlotte. Specific requests include:

  • That the antibiotics rid her body of all infections
  • For Charlotte to breathe on her own
  • For us to treat and prevent future seizures from home
